Louis Walter Fredrickson, 96 of Esko died Sunday, December 16, 2012 in Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton with his loving family by his side. He was born August 23, 1916 in Thomson Township to Peter and Alice Fredrickson. On June 8, 1940 Louis married Evelyn Randa in Cloquet. He was a WWII Army Veteran during the European Theatre. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. Louis was awarded many medals, including a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Louis worked for the MN Highway Dept. in Duluth as an Equipment Operator. During the 1960's he owned and operated an A&W Drive Inn in Hinckley. He was a member of Apostolic Lutheran Church, Carlton VFW, Cloquet American Legion, D.A.V. Eagles Club, Esko Senior Citizens, Esko Historical Society, and was a former member of the Cloquet Moose. Louis enjoyed going to sporting events, spending time with family, reading westerns, especially Louis L'Amour, and traveling. Louis was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Evelyn; son, Lee Louis Fredrickson; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Edward Kavaloski; sister, Lila Zahl; and an infant brother. He is survived by one son, Gary (Carolyn) Fredrickson of Esko; one daughter, Cynthia (Harold) Walton of Rush City; 7 grandchildren, Gina (Joe) Mitchell, Laurie (Steve) Olin, Nicole (Karl) Milberger, Derek (Stephanie) Fredrickson, Angela (Jon) Wimmer, Jamie Kavaloski, Valerie (Ray) Couture; 13 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson. The family offers a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Inter-Faith Care Center for the wonderful care given to Louis. Memorial Services were held on Thursday, December 20, 2012 in Apostolic Lutheran Church in Esko. Burial will be in Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Esko Athletic Fund.
