Lucy G. Arellano
May 21st, 1956 - October 16th, 2023
Lucy G. Arellano, loving mother, beloved sister, aunt, and friend was peacefully called home Monday, October 16, 2023. Born in Northern New Mexico on May 21, 1956 to Gilfredo Jose Trujillo and Esther Gonzalez Trujillo, she naturally had a passion for the outdoors and serving her community. She is fondly remembered as a person who always made time for the enrichment of others, especially the youth and elderly. She helped lead initiatives with N.M. legislators and was successful to bring development funding to the Northern part of the state in the early 80s. In the latter part of that decade she’d moved to Colorado Springs in an effort to pursue her dreams of further her education and opportunities. She earned certifications in limited scope radiology and massage therapy, both of which played perfectly into her serving nature. After 30 years of working at Penrose Hospital in various positions, she retired in July of 2021 with an honorable send off from her fellow staff members and friends. Lucy is survived by her sons, Henry (Crystal) and James (Sophia); grandchildren, Noah, Bella, Khaleecio, and Trevino; best friend, Marie; sisters, Tomasita and Agatha; and brother, Silviano. She is preceded in death by both parents and eight siblings. She loved her grandchildren dearly and celebrated their success like it was her own. Though she battled cancer in her final year, she wouldn’t let it keep her from visiting practices, games, or even streaming them to stay up to date. Mass, 10:00AM, Friday, November 3, 2023, St Patrick’s Church, 6455 Brook Park Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80918. Reception to follow. Graveside Service, 2:00PM, Friday, November 3, 2023, Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 Hancock Expressway, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903. In lieu of flowers the family is asking that memorial contributions be made to Springs Rescue Mission, https://www.springsrescuemission.org/secure/give-today
