Lue Mae Spires WEST COLUMBIA: Funeral services for Lue Mae Spires, 94, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 13, 2011, in the City of Hope Church, 1403 D Ave. at Platt Springs Rd., officiated by Pastor Neil Nolan and Rev. David Spires. Interment will follow at the First Baptist Church of Gaston Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to March of Dimes S.C. Chapter on behalf of Andrew Richard Hudson, 240 Stoneridge Dr., Suite 206, Columbia, SC 29210 or to Autism Speaks, on behalf of Amanda Statchler, 5455 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 2250, Los Angeles, CA 90036. Mrs. Spires, widow of James H. "Hub" Spires, went home to be with her Lord, Monday, May 9, 2011. Born in Edmund, SC, she was a daughter of the late Charlie E. Baughman and Beulah Sanders Baughman. She had owned and operated Spires Grocery Store on Fish Hatchery Road; worked at Pacific Mills for 25 years; Giant Food City in West Columbia, a.k.a., Red and White for 23 ½ years, and then retired at age seventy-four. She was a member of City of Hope Church, formerly West Columbia Church of God since 1923. Surviving are her children, son, Gerald L. Spires (Sue) of Cape Coral, FL; Betty S. Almond (Larry) of Lexington, Edith S. Epting (Hank) of Lexington, Marie S. Sylvester (Joe) of Cayce and Tammy S. Glenn (Richard) of West Columbia; sister, Gainelle Siracusa of New York; nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Family and friends may sign online guest book at www.thompsonsfuneral.com
