Lydia Esther Rosario passed away on Sunday Oct 24, 2021, at 12:12 pm in the comfort of her home in the arms of her daughter Monique surrounded by family and close friends. Lydia 78 was born on May 2, 1943, in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico to her parents Josefa Mass Texidor and Pedro Rosario. Lydia moved to Manhattan in 1947. She attended New York City Catholic and public schools including the Jane Adams Vocational High School in the Bronx, where she graduated High School as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Immediately after graduation, she started working at Knickerbocker Hospital where she met Giuseppe Musolino and from this union their daughter Lyza was born. After several years Lydia met Peter Barbieri and from this union their daughter Monique was born. In 1974 Lydia met and married William Perez and they raised his son David along with her two daughters. Lydia developed a passion for Operating Room Nursing and went back to school at the Helene Fuld College of Nursing to earn her Bachelor's in Science graduating at the top of her class as a Registered Nurse. All the while Lydia continued working at several hospitals and clinics in New York, most notably St. Joseph's Hospital in Queens, Lenox Hill Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, where she proudly served on the pioneer Liver and Kidney Transplant team. In 1994 she moved to Florida to be closer to her children and grandchildren. There she continued her career as an Operating Room Nurse at Outpatient Surgical Centers where she was recognized by both patients and colleagues as a superb Nurse and dear Friend. Lydia was respected for her knowledge of medicine and was often called upon for guidance and compassion. She was the ""Healer"" of the family and she loved and was loved by her family, close friends and everyone who met her. In 2008 she retired from nursing due to her failing health and to be closer to her family moved to North Port Florida. In 2012 Lydia underwent a Liver Transplant herself and for many years struggled with health issues. Her daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren as well as many family members and friends supported her throughout. She was always grateful for the extra 9 years on this earth so that she could witness the births of her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as the weddings of three of her grandchildren. Lydia is preceded in death by her parents, Josefa (Mima) and Pedro, Giuseppe (Pepe') the father of her daughter Lyza, her husband William (Papi Bill) and her brothers, Luis (Lefty), Augustin (Chickie), Pedro (Pete), Charles (Charlie), James (Jimmy), Nestor (Ney) and Hector, her sisters Maria (Toto), and Julia as well as her cherished Princess and eldest granddaughter Erica (Ree). Lydia leaves behind to mourn her loss and celebrate her life in memory, her daughters, and their spouses Lyza and Al of Sunrise, Fl and Monique and Santos of North Port, Fl as well as her adored grandchildren Andrew, Adriana (and spouse William), Nicholas (and spouse Maggie), Julia and Alyssa and great grandchildren Iizaiuh, Issac and Ian. Additionally, she leaves behind her God-granddaughter Justina and her son Jaiden. She also leaves behind her sisters and their spouses Maria and Carlos of Alpharetta, Ga., and Josephine (Josie) and Pedro (Jimmy) of Flushing, NY, sisters-in-law Ramonita (Charlie's wife) and Johnnie Mae (Lefty's wife) as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and very dear friends.
