Maj. "Bo" Carl R. Horton
August 6th, 1935 - May 19th, 2013
A graveside service celebrating the life of MAJ Carl R. "Bo" Horton, (US Army, Ret.) 77, of Columbia will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013 in Greenlawn Memorial Park Serenity Gardens with full military honors and interment to follow. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Greenlawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the South Carolina Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 537 Long Point Road, Suite 203, Mt Pleasant, SC 29464 in Carl's memory. On-line condolences may be sent to www.Greenlawn-Columbia.com. Major Horton departed this earthly life on Sunday, May 19, 2013. He was born in Golden Valley, NC to Clyde Pernell Horton and Sarah Ellis Green Horton. Major Horton retired from the United States Army after 21years of faithful service to our country in which he received numerous medals, awards, and decorations. After retirement from the United States Army, Major Horton was employed as a Registered Nurse at the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC and he retired after 27 years of dedicated service. Major Horton was predeceased by his parents; his son, Ricky Horton; and two brothers. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Shirley Faye Harrill Horton; a loving daughter, Sherry Horton; three sisters, Margaret Upton, Grace Newton, and Martha Jane Buchanan; two brothers, Robert Horton and Wink Horton; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly. Major Horton also had a special bond with Wally Creviston and Chip Booth whom he considered as his own sons. .

Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families.
