Margaret Evelyn (Hardy) Sobieski passed away peacefully at her home in Winter Haven on September 30,2024.  She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.   Margaret was born on October 14, 1936 in Bluefield, Virginia to James Howell Hardy Jr. and Evelyn Russ Hardy.  She graduated from Radford College with a degree in elementary education.   In 1957, Peg married Martin Luther (Pete) Harman.  They had Lynn Ellen in 1959 and Kaye Davis in 1962.  Margaret’s favorite profession was being a mother, home room mother and homemaker.  She loved home décor, flower arranging, music, baking, and clover patches.

In 1975 Peg and Pete moved to Florida to enjoy everything sunny Florida had to offer, but their life paths diverged in 1979. The next year, Peg was blessed to meet Stanley (Corky) Sobieski visiting from Connecticut and their long-distance friendship blossomed into marriage in 1982.  Peg and Corkyenjoyed many loving happy years with their blended family in Florida and Connecticut.  In 2017 Corky passed away, and Peg spent the remainder of her years doting on her children, grandchildren and great-grand-children as G-ma and Mimi. Peg was always proud to have never owned a computer or a “smart phone” and enjoyed having the rest of her family communicate with her in person (preferred) or by snail mail or  land line phone. Her favorite hobby was making people laugh.   If she could make someone chuckle or smile it made her day and she would reflect on those moments often.   She loved giving gifts, sending cards and doing for others and never stopped.

Peg leaves behind daughters, Lynn Ellen Harman-Margo(Curtis) Tampa ; Kaye Harman Stine (partner Tim Smith) Winter Haven; Bonus children; Kris Mackey (Ron) of Myrtle Beachand  Karl Sobieski (Pepper) of Cape Cod; Grandchildren Carly (Ryan) Carden and Katie (Steven) Sokoloski; Brian  (Megan)Mackey; Sarah (John) Griffin; Hannah (Justin) Kaeser and 7 great grandchildren Raegan, John, Caroline, Beck, Sawyer,  Sutton and Peyton.   She was preceded in death by her brother James Howell (Jim) Hardy III.   Her laugh, benevolence and sense of humor will not be forgotten.

A Memorial Service for Margaret (Peg) is scheduled for Friday October 18 at 2 pm at First Presbyterian Church in Winter Haven, Florida.  In lieu of flowers please send memorial donations to First Presbyterian Church of Winter Haven Soup Kitchen, Empath Hospice, or Good Shepherd Hospice.
