Margarete A. Bankston Margarete A. Bankston, 91, of Marina, passed away peacefully at her home on November 30, 2011, with her family surrounding her. Margarete was born on November 26, 1920 in Magdeburg, Germany. She met her husband, Benny J. Bankston, during World War II. They moved to the United States shortly thereafter, then they eventually settled in Marina 46 years ago, when her husband retired from the U.S. Army. Margarete established her career as a pantry chef, working at various Peninsula restaurants, completing her career at her favorite restaurant, The Windfall in Salinas. Margarete was devoted to her family. She loved reading, playing bingo, and simply cooking and spending time with her family. She will be forever missed by those whose lives she has touched. Margarete is survived by her children, Ben Bankston, Margarete Corpuz, and Robert Bankston, her sister, Ernie Ewall, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benny J. Bankston and her sister, Ilse Straub. Margarete?s memorial service will be held at Seaside Funeral Home, 1915 Ord Grove Avenue, Seaside, CA on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. and inurnment will be at Mission Memorial Park in Seaside. Mission Memorial Park opened in 1934 as Mission Memorial Cemetery and for many years was run by the City of Monterey. In 1988, Monterey Peninsula Mortuary opened on the grounds of our beautiful Seaside location. In 2007 we closed our Chapel of Seaside at our Noche Buena location and merged the two to become Mission Mortuary & Memorial Park....
