Margrit Davis, 85, passed away peacefully at her home on June 13, 2014 in Columbia, SC. She was born on May 21, 1929 in Baumburg Germany to Max Sauter and Elizabeth Bohn Sauter. Her father owned a fountain pen factory in Berlin. Her mother worked as a secretary. She fondly remembered in her early years spending much of her time with her favorite Grandmother, Elisabeth. She attended schools in Baden-Baden and Fehmarn. In 1946, she met Thomas Davis of Waycross, GA, while he was stationed in Germany with the US Army. A year later they were married and then moved to the US to raise their family. Her interests included reading, travel and needlepoint. In her later life, she attended the University of South Carolina and made her family proud by making the Dean's list. She always enjoyed talking about world politics and history. But most of all, she cherished her role as matriarch of her family; always providing love, support and encouragement to her children and grandchildren. She was a long-time member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Mrs. Davis is survived by her 5 children and their spouses: Thomas Max (Karen), Carswell Langley, Barbara Ellen (Steven Smith), Gary Richard (Susan), and Michael Peter (Edie); 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., on Monday, June 16, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209, with Pastor Paul Wollner officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to either Amedisys Hospice, 220 Stoneridge Drive, Suite 105, Columbia, SC 29210 or to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 3909 Forest Drive, Columbia, SC 29204.

Greenlawn Memorial Park

Greenlawn Memorial Park

Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum....
