Marie J. Bologna went home to be with the lord on October 3, 2015. She was surrounded by her family. She was born on February 6, 1923 in Pittsburg, Ca. to Joseph and Rose Rappa. Marie was the eldest of five children. Her family moved to Monterey when she was a young girl. Marie met the love of her life Russell Bologna and they married on Oct. 25, 1941. Marie & Russell joined her parents to begin Rappa's Seafood Restaurant in 1953. Marie enjoyed going to the horse track with her husband and later with her grandchildren. She also loved her weekly poker games with family and friends. Her favorite pastimes were gardening, decorations and baking. For over 20 years Marie opened her home for Bible study with so much joy and love. Her greatest joy was her three grandsons. She was at every sporting event front row with her lawn chair, rooting them on. Her most expressed line was "Praise the Lord" and she said it with such passion. Marie is survived by daughter, Fran Avila and her three grandsons, Gino (Jen), Giovanni and Gianni Avila and one great granddaughter Giuliana-Rose Avila, her surviving brother Anthony (Linda) Rappa and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded by her parents Joseph and Rose Rappa, husband Russell, sister Angie Rombi, brothers Salvatore and Joseph Rappa. The family would like to give thanks to Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen and the Hospice VNA nurses for all the aid and support. Anthony & Linda Rappa for their generosity. Anthony Gallero for giving Marie flowers and dinner every Saturday and the time spent with her. Thanks to John and Sharon Danelon for their kindness, care, generosity and constant support for the family. A special thanks to Giovanni Avila for his time, care and sacrifice he gave to his grandmother for many years. A mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday Oct. 8th, at 10:30am at San Carlos Cathedral.

Mission Mortuary - Monterey

Being centrally located on the Monterey Peninsula and adjacent to the San Carlos and Monterey City Cemeteries, Mission Mortuary has been the premier funeral home choice for Monterey and the entire Monterey Bay Peninsula for many years. Mission Mortuary opened its doors in 1946 at a location on Munras Avenue in Monterey and moved to our current location on Camino El Estero in 1952. While times certainly have changed, Mission Mortuary has continually adapted to meet the evolving needs of our families....
