Memorial Keepers (1)
Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home
Marie "Hess" Juliette Rivers
August 2nd, 1927 - March 11th, 2016
Marie Rivers was born in Alberta Canada August 2, 1927 to Edward and Ellen Hess. Marie was preceded in death by her husband Charles Nelson Rivers. Marie is survived by three daughters, Karen Baranick, Donna Rivers (Martin), Cheryl Weinel (John) and two grandchildren, Kerry Loehr and Patricia Tonisson. Marie was blessed with siblings she loved dearly, Laurence Hess, Roy Hess, Harry Hess, Ray Hess, and Merle Rathbone. Merle was Marie's only sister and best friend. Merle's daughter Colleen was like a daughter to Marie. Marie and husband "Nels" relocated to Portland Oregon where they raised their family. Marie was raised a Canadian farm girl lavishing fresh baked homemade bread, noodles, canned goods, and hearty meals to her family. Foremost she was a proud and devoted mother to "her girls", always supportive and full of love and encouragement. Marie loved old country music, could strum a guitar, play the harmonica, and dance the living room floor unexpectedly to Hank Snow. Marie loved rode trips, good coffee, sparkling jewelry, red clothes, ceramic classes, and Kettle potato chips. Marie enjoyed working in her Sellwood yard, especially in the summer where she often commented on the joyful noises from the children playing in the Sellwood swimming pool. Marie lived a long life with much love between she and her daughters. People would describe Marie as a "sweetheart", an undeniable truth. She will be missed more than words can say. A private family service will be held 3/24/16 at Willamette National Cemetery. Please feel free to leave a message on this site regarding Marie for her family. Service Information

Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home
At Wilhelm's Portland Memorial, we have a rich history dating back to 1901 when we became the first crematory west of the Mississippi River, known then as The Portland Cremation Association. Our historic chapel, marked by its cornerstone placed on February 5th, 1901, has stood the test of time. Today, our memorial site spans 8 stories, approximately 7 miles of corridors of beautifully preserved architecture, and the largest mausoleum on the west coast, spanning 2.5 city blocks....
