Marion "Joyce" Carpenter
July 21st, 1942 - October 23rd, 2022
Joyce Carpenter passed away peacefully on October 23rd with Ernest Carpenter at her side. Born on July 21, 1942, to David and Annie Overby, Joyce was described as a bundle of joy. She was passionate about cooking and family from a very young age, and made a delicious serving of chicken and dumplings, fried chicken, and amazing pies to the joy of her friends and family. Joyce loved going on cruises and going out of town to new places. She loved going to Lawrence’s to cookouts and going to see children and grandchildren. She loved to sleep in and was described as an “afternoon person.” She loved Sonny’s barbeque so much she often made a 63 mile trip just to go get it. Joyce is predeceased by her first husband, her parents, and her son David Bell. She is survived by her children: Janice Marlene McFarlan, Patricia Christine Morris, Mary Catherine McFarlan, Lawrence Spencer Bell; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 29 at 1pm at Greenlawn Memorial Park with a visitation one hour prior at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209.

We Entrusted Marion Carpenter's Care To
Greenlawn Memorial Park
Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum....
