Marjorie "Peg" Jackson
July 3rd, 1923 - August 29th, 2010
Marjorie D. Jackson, known as Peg to family and friends, passed into eternal rest after a long illness on Sunday, August 29, 2010, at the age of 87. Peg was born on July 3, 1923, in Columbia, SC. She was the daughter of Ruby Durham Britt and Delton Leslie Britt. She attended the University of South Carolina and worked for many years at the Richland County Public Library, where she retired. Peg married William Linton Jackson on August 30, 1942. They lived in California during WW II, and then returned to Columbia, where they remained for the rest of their lives. Peg was a great fan of big band and swing music, and spent many happy nights listening to the great swing orchestras of the day. Peg usually had a table down front, close to the band, so that she could keep an eye on her husband as he played the saxophone. Animals were her second love. She had many cats in her lifetime, and even found time for an occasional dog or rabbit. Her last cat, Whiskers, was her faithful companion for 15 years. But, without a doubt, Peg?s greatest love was her family. She took great joy in spending time with them all, including her daughter, one granddaughter, one niece and one grand niece. She loved her family dearly, and supported them all in every way that she could. She was pre-deceased by her husband, William Linton Jackson, and a sister, Jan D. Hirsch. Survivors include her daughter and longtime caregiver, Glynn Jackson Keisler (Ron), her granddaughter, Allison Keisler, a niece, Jan Hirsch Reid (J.R.), a grand niece, Marissa Reid and several cousins. The family will receive friends from 6:00 ? 7:30 pm on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Greenlawn Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 3:00 pm in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the very special staff and volunteers of Palmetto Health Hospice for all of their love, care and compassion during her illness. Memorials can be made to the Palmetto Health Hospice Foundation, Department #274, PO Box 100199, Columbia, SC 29202-3199.

We Entrusted Marjorie Jackson's Care To
Greenlawn Memorial Park
Greenlawn Memorial Park is one of Columbia's most historic perpetual care cemeteries. This gorgeous setting combines serenity, natural beauty, and diligent care for generations of families. North Lake, located in the center of our park, offers a water feature and is the site of many local events, including an annual Easter sunrise service, a Greenlawn tradition for over 50 years. The park also has a veteran's section, private family estates, a columbarium with niches for cremated remains, and an incredible granite mausoleum....
