Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home
Mark Irvin Schmidt
September 5th, 1952 - March 23rd, 2017
Mark Schmidt, age 64, passed away on March 23rd, 2017, at OHSU. Family and friends were by his side during his final days. Mark was born in Oregon City, raised in Beavercreek and attended Molalla High School. He graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelors Degree in Business/Agricultural Economics. He was a self employed architect, designer, and builder for over 40 years specializing in craftsman style homes. Mark approached life with passion and chose to live life to the fullest. He said, “My greatest desire is to live a life of service to Christ.” He generously shared his skills and expertise with any person who asked for his help. Many said, “Mark was my best friend.” Mark loved nature, wildlife, fishing, and especially the river. While living on the Molalla River he volunteered his time helping conservation efforts through Molalla River Watch and Molalla River Alliance. Mark received a River Steward of the Year award from Native Fish Society for his personal sacrifice and commitment. He was a person that was described in many ways; unique, passionate, incredible storyteller, with an amazing way with words. He put his whole heart into everything he touched. Mark’s favorite hobby was fly fishing and many sought him out to gain knowledge and go fishing with him. He loved living on the river, teaching others, laughing, fishing with friends and swapping stories. He shared his adventures on the river by crafting his adventures into delightful short stories and emailing them to his appreciative audience of friends. Mark was married to Donna, who preceded him in death in 2007. In 2015, he met Diana, a widow. The two widowers shared a strong faith and found amusement and joy in the many things they had in common. Love grew quickly and Mark said to Diana, “I never thought I would be happy again. We are very lucky you and I.” Mark married Diana in March 2016 and together they enjoyed doing the things they loved: woodworking, gardening, organizing, fine art, gentle hiking, river walks, fishing, and serving others. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Conrad and Marian Louise (Williams) Schmidt and brother Ron Schmidt. He is survived by his wife Diana (Lindsey Brown), daughter Britney Brown, sons Christopher and Sean Roley, six grandchildren and his younger brother Ralph Schmidt. A Celebration of Life service will be on Saturday April 22, 2017 from 12:00 to 3:00 pm. It will be held at Molalla Church of the Nazarene. There will be a potluck reception and open mic sharing following the service. Service Information

Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home
At Wilhelm's Portland Memorial, we have a rich history dating back to 1901 when we became the first crematory west of the Mississippi River, known then as The Portland Cremation Association. Our historic chapel, marked by its cornerstone placed on February 5th, 1901, has stood the test of time. Today, our memorial site spans 8 stories, approximately 7 miles of corridors of beautifully preserved architecture, and the largest mausoleum on the west coast, spanning 2.5 city blocks....
