Mark Wheaton passed away at home peacefully on October 16, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. He was 53. Raised in Monterey, he graduated from Monterey High School in 1976. Mark took great pride in his work as a contractor and custom estimator with Granite Rock. He had a great love for auto racing and spent countless weekends at Laguna Seca. During the summer, he enjoyed trips to his family?s cabin at Lake Almanor. Though he enjoyed all of these things, Marks' greatest past time was spending time with his family. He was a loving husband to his wife Sandi and an incredible father to his daughter Jennifer and son Daniel. Mark was the type of man that every man should aspire to be; an amazing role model, a strong, selfless man and kind soul. His family and friends will remember him for all of these things and so much more. He is survived by his wife of 26 years Sandra; two children Jennifer and Daniel; mother and step-father Shirley and Harry Peterson; siblings Cindy Hacke (Hugh) and Mike Wheaton (Eileen). He was preceded in death by his father Don Wheaton. A celebration of life will be held at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on October 29 from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Mission Mortuary opened its doors in 1946 at a location on Munras Avenue in Monterey and moved to our current location on Camino El Estero in 1952. While times certainly have changed, Mission Mortuary has continually adapted to meet the evolving needs of our families....
