Martin C. Blum
January 29th, 1922 - April 28th, 2015
Martin C. Blum, D.D.S., 93, of Venice, FL died suddenly on Tuesday, April 28th. Marty was born on Cincinnati, Ohio to Martin Charles Blum and Alice Cherdrin Blum. He was their only child. A piece of his ancestral heritage of which he was very proud was the fact that he was one quarter Cherokee Indian. He grew up in the Northside area of the city and graduated from Hughes High School, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Cincinnati in three years, then attended Ohio State School of Dentistry. After graduating from OSU in 1947 he returned to Cincinnati to open his dental practice. After two years he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Captain Blum served as a dentist at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida during the time of Korean War following which he returned to his practice in Cincinnati for the next 36 years. Marty loved boating and was a long-time member of Sarasota Yacht Club where he served as Fleet Surgeon for several years. He was an avid golfer and played to a four handicap, belonging to Clovernook Country Club in Cincinnati and Mission Valley, The Oaks and Jacaranda West Country Clubs in Florida. In his late 60’s, he was the Club champion at Tatum Ridge Golf Club in Sarasota. Over the years he had an amazing 6 holes in one. Dr. Blum was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Keitzmann Blum, his parents, and his elder daughter Marsha and son-in-law Clifford Strefelt. He is survived by this wife, Constance (Connie), his daughter Candis Wood and her husband, Paul, his stepdaughter, Christina Robins, and stepson, Peter Wayne, as well as four grandsons: Christopher and Matthew Strefelt and Martin and Sean Wood., seven great grandchildren and five stepgreat grandchildren, all of whom got to know and love “Doc.” A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, May 4th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Englewood followed by burial at Venice Memorial Gardens.
