Numerous niece’s and nephew’s Preceded in Death By his Father Hester, Mother Ramona, and Stepmother Florence Two brother’s Keith and Robert ” Bobby”. One step-son Darrel. He often talked about the hard life he and his family faced during the Great Depression. He talked about losing his youngest brother Keith when the house they lived in caught fire also badly burning another brother Robert (Bobby) which left him badly scared. Bobby and his Mother went to Chicago to get treatment for his burns. Martin, his Father and older brother Don went in the summer but returned to Carbondale for school. Martin’s Father and Mother eventually divorced. Martin graduated from Carbondale Community High School In 1946. Upon graduation he joined the Navy were he served Proudly. When he was discharged he eventually came to Denver to attend the Colorado School of Trades to be come a Gunsmith. His love of guns came early in his life he often said when he was growing up ” If you didn’t shoot it or catch it you didn’t eat”. But he must of been a pretty good shot even back then because he earned the nickname “Tubby” from his family. Martin returned to Carbondale in the late 40’s and opened his own Gun Shop and also worked for Martin Oil Company. He eventually returned to Denver where he went to work for Matt Canjar making the then famous Canjar trigger’s. He left there eventually and worked for Monahan’s a medical device company. Monahan’s is now known as Norvartis Pharmaceutical Equipment. When the plant closed it’s door’s in Denver Martin took a little time off and eventually went to work at Sterling Stainless Tube Corporation in Englewood, CO. He also did a little moonlighting at the Shootin Shop South in Littleton, CO. When Sterling closed it’s door’s he permanently retired. But being Martin (never one to just sit around) he returned to work for the Shooting Shop and was there for about eight years but eventually decided he really wanted to do more shooting and fishing. Martin was an avid Big-game-hunter, up-land bird hunter and award winning Shotgun and Rifle shooter. He always had time to work on a fellow shooter’s gun or just talk gun’s and it seemed a lot of people wanted a ” Henry trigger ” on their gun. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the NRA Whittington Center, Raton New Mexico; were Martin was a Founder’s Club Member and Life Member, your local gun club or Porters Hospice.
