Marvin Shockley
November 22nd, 1930 - August 16th, 2015
On August 16th 2015, our loving Lord reached out His hand and received Marvin Loyal Shockley into His loving arms in Heaven. Marvin was born in Washington Township, in Smith County Kansas, on November 22nd 1930 to Everett and Erma Shockley. He attended Black Eagle grade school in Washington Township, Smith county. He graduated from Smith Center High School in 1948. He was inducted into the service in 1951, at the start of the Korean war. His most significant duty assignment was in HQ. 7th Army G2 section. Returning home, he helped his father on the farm, until he was married to Shirley Joan Bonds. To this union was born a daughter, Sherri Jo. Marvin was a construction worker. He was a foreman for Bushman Construction for 17 years, building the Red Willow Dam at McCook, NE., the Merit Dam at Valentine, NE., and then was put in charge of the Glen Elder Dam in Glen Elder, KS. After his divorce from Joan, he met and married Evelyn M. Cox. Evelyn was the R.N. working at the Glen Elder Dam. In 1966, after completion of the Glen Elder Reservoir, they moved to Montrose, Colorado, where he was the superintendent of the Silver Jack Dam. After completing the Silver Jack Dam, Marvin and his two step-sons started their own construction company in Denver, CO. The name of this company was M.S. Concrete Forming, Inc., building foundations for houses and shopping malls. After 20 years, Marvin retired due to a back injury. Marvin and Evelyn loved to travel, living in Arizona in the winter, then back to Denver and then on to the West Coast to fish in the ocean. Marvin is preceded in death by his wife Evelyn (Patti), his parents Everett and Erma Shockley, Three brothers Harold and wife Eileen, Kenneth and wife Grace, Richard and surviving spouse Dorothy, two sisters Mary Elaine Bortz, Ruby Ruff and surviving spouse Sonny. Marvin lost one stepson, Larry O. Malleis and a grandson Douglas Wayne Malleis. He leaves to mourn his passing daughter Sherri Jo Dannenberg and husband Kris, Gaylord, KS, grandchildren Kina (Delbert) Elliott, Red Cloud, NE, Tember Hursh, Chesterfield, MO, Elizabeth Dannenberg Paola, KS, great grandson Gage Elliott, step son Eddie Malleis, Parker CO, grandsons Kevin (Jamie) Malleis Loveland CO, Roger Malleis Parker CO, granddaughters Yvette Reed (Andrew) Parker CO, Elaine Hancock (Kevin), Oregon. Many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
