Mary Ann Haines
November 23rd, 1929 - September 26th, 2023
Mary Ann Haines (née Kinnick), age 93, passed away on September 26, 2023, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN, surrounded by loving family. Mary Ann was born November 23, 1929, to Edward and Marian Kinnick of Haugen, WI. She graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1947 and completed her studies at the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis in Clinical Laboratory Technique in 1948. She worked as a lab technician at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, WI, where she met her future husband, John F. Haines. They were married in Haugen on May 2, 1959. She raised three children and devoted her life to serving others, helping to pay for her brothers’ educations, caring for elderly parents, working with children, including those with Downs’ syndrome, caring for her three grandchildren during summers, and engaging in a wide range of volunteer activities, especially at St. Williams Catholic Church and Unity Hospital in Fridley, MN. She was a huge fan of the Gophers, Twins, and Packers, had a great sense of humor, loved playing cards, knitting, crocheting, baking (especially cookies and banana bread), summers at the cabin, and spending time with her family and many friends. She had a knack for making friends wherever she went. Mary Ann was the oldest of nine children and is survived by: her daughter Ann Marie (Steven) Alm; sons Paul (Vicky) and Matthew (Jennifer Marshall); grandsons Edward Basom (Peggy Young), Erik Basom, and Kyle Basom (Mariah Pellowski) ; great-grandson Arthur Basom; her two sisters Rita (Patrick) Callan and Dolores Kielas; two brothers Bernard (Ginny) and Gene Kinnick; and a large extended family, many of whom kept in close contact with Mary Ann all her life. She was preceded in death by her husband and four brothers (Edward, Norbert, Leonard, and Joseph Kinnick). Her life will be celebrated on October 14, 2023, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Haugen, WI (317 5th St.). Holy mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. After mass, her ashes will be interred at the Holy Trinity Cemetery in Haugen. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Epiphany Catholic School in Coon Rapids, MN, St. Joseph School in Rice Lake, WI, or any K-12 Catholic school.
