Mary C Higgins

Mary Chadwick Higgins of Haines City passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Friday, November 30, 2018. She was born in Kissimmee, FL on June 26, 1950, to the late John and Mattie Chadwick. Mary is survived by her devoted husband of 42 years, Ken Higgins, daughter Shannon Higgins, son John Higgins and daughter-in-law Amy, 4 granddaughters, sisters Nellie, Nita, Nancy, and Edith, and a large loving extended family. Mary was a very creative person and enjoyed many interests. Her hobbies included pottery, painting, wine-making, knitting, soap-making, and acting in Haines City Community Theatre productions. She was an avid book lover, and dabbled in creative writing. She enjoyed singing and played the piano. She earned her yellow belt in karate and walked in the Disney half-marathon. She was also a faithful member for many years of New Horizon Church (an United Methodist Congregation). Mary earned her Registered Nurse certification in 1971, and served as an RN in the active Army '71-'74 and Army Reserves '74-'76. She then worked for the U.S. Postal Service for many years. She went back to school at the age of 50 to earn an AS degree in Computer Assisted Drafting, then worked for American Vulkan Corp for many years before her retirement in 2015. Services will be held Thursday, December 6th, at Oakridge Funeral Care in Haines City. Family visitation is 1:30 to 2:00 pm, general visitation 2:00 to 3:00 pm, Celebration of Life Service 3:00 to 4:00 pm. Reception for friends and family will follow at New Horizon Church, 400 Orchid Drive, Haines City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation or the Humane Society of Polk County.
