Mary Ann Wieben Johnson passed away peacefully on August 28, the day before her 87th birthday, at her home in Colorado Springs, CO. Mary Ann was born to Fred and Opal (Fanning) Wieben in Hartley, Iowa on August 29,1937.

Mary Ann  graduated from Everly High School, Everly, IA in 1954. She attended Mankato Commercial College. Mary Ann later attended MacCormac Junior College of Chicago where she graduated with a degree in Paralegal Studies in 1976. She was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Fraternity at MacCormac.

The highlight of Mary Ann’s career was as an office manager of the engineering firm, Face Associates, Inc. in Washington D.C.  Mary Ann worked there from its inception in 1980 until moving to Colorado. She was known for bringing a lunch consisting of a Slim Fast and a small baggie of potato chips daily.

Mary Ann married Bjarne Johnson in 1960 in Blue Earth, Minnesota.   Bjarne’s military career as a pilot afforded them the opportunity to reside in many locations, including Minnesota, Hawaii, Pennsylviania, Texas and Maryland.  They divorced in 1983. Mary Ann moved to Colorado in 2002.

Mary Ann was a member of the Lutheran Church.

Mary Ann  had varied interests and hobbies.   A prized possession kept throughout her life was her 1968 Pontiac Firebird Convertible. Mary Ann was the original owner.

Mary Ann  followed sports, especially the Colorado Rockies and Colorado Avalanche. As a Rockies fan, Mary Ann would keep a scoresheet of every game.  For many years, she enjoyed golf lessons, volleyball, walking, and her Curves exercise group.

Music was her passion. Mary Ann enjoyed playing her grand piano and collecting all genres of music.  During recent years, Mary Ann had season tickets to Candlelight Dinner Theater in Johnstown and attended musical theater performances with family members.

Cats were her constant companions, with Rocky being a favorite and Mitt Mitt being her most recent. Mary Ann enjoyed her home, her neighbors, her view of Pikes Peak from her deck and watching the Thunderbirds fly over.  Feeding the birds and squirrels in her backyard brought her pleasure.

Mary Ann was an avid reader, and loved starting the day with a newspaper. Doing the cross word puzzle in the paper was her tradition over the years, starting with the Washington Post.

Sewing was another passion. Mary Ann made her own clothes and owned several sewing machines.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her father Fred Wieben, her mother Opal Wieben, and her brother John Wieben.

Per Mary Ann’s wishes, no services will be held. Mary Ann will be interred at Mountain Vale Memorial Gardens in Canon City, CO at a later date.
