Mary Rottach Née – Stohr
October 5th, 1927 - February 9th, 2021
Age 93. All who met Mary were drawn to her signature smile, fortitude and deep passion for life. Her love of music, travel, poetry and people won her friends from all generations. The family cabin on the Snake River near Pine City was always a source of inspiration and adventure. A lifelong learner and traveler, Mary enjoyed adult courses at local colleges. For many years she hosted exchange students from around the globe. She was a pillar of support for her son Pat when he deployed to Iraq and was overjoyed when he returned safely. St. Patrick’s Day was her favorite holiday. At age 86 she and her daughter Lisa realized their dream of touching foot in Ireland, making a trip of a lifetime. She fought to make a valiant recovery from a stroke in 2017. Cared for by family in her home, she continued to find joy, beauty and laughter in each and every day. Born Louise Mary Stohr in Des Moines, Iowa on October 5, 1927. Mary began piano lessons as a young girl, and music remained her joy throughout life. After living in Davenport, IA, the family relocated to Champaign, IL, where she played organ for the 6:00 a.m. daily Catholic mass. She studied art for a year at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. At age 19 her family moved to Minneapolis where she graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Psychology. An excellent typist who excelled at shorthand, Mary was an accomplished secretary. Working as an executive secretary for the US Senate in Washington DC was a highlight of her life. Upon her return to Minnesota, she and Roger Rottach were married in1965 at St. Agnes Church in St. Paul. Her Irish twinkle, infectious laugh, and unconditional love will be most deeply missed by her ‘greatest treasures’, son Patrick (Melissa) and daughter Lisa (David). A sincere thank you to Dr. Charles Callaghan for his unwavering care throughout the years. Private Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Spirit Catholic Church followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery.
