Mary Elizabeth Stone, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away at home Saturday, September 6th surrounded by her cherished and devoted husband Calvin R. Stone and family. Her life journey began June 13, 1934 in Bartonville, IL born to H. Dewey and Bertha DeWerth Pitzer both deceased. Three brothers have preceded her in death. Surviving family includes daughters Karen L. (Clyde I.) Petty III, Susan L. Crabtree (Steven P. Hurd), Christine A. (John L.) Rainey, Susan E. Whetstone. Her six grandchildren include Laura Petty (Mike) Green, Clyde (Sabrina) Petty IV, Michael Rainey, David Rainey, Mark (Kirstin) Whetstone, Matthew Whetstone. Five great-grandchildren include Alissa Petty, Tyler, Cole and Cameron Whetstone and Maci Whetstone. Surviving siblings are Hazel Neff, Jim and Jerry Pitzer. Mary's talents and life loves were many. She was passionate about children. She enjoyed music, theater, dining out especially at the Crow's Nest and her membership at the Venice Yacht Club. Mary enjoyed entertaining friends with her cooking, playing the piano, along with gardening. She was a special lady who enjoyed her home and pretty things. Mary loved to travel especially on the river boats of Europe. The trips took her to over thirty-eight countries. Her best trip was her last one which was from the pain of cancer to the joy of being with Jesus. Services will be held Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Farley Funeral Home, Venice, FL at 11:30, visitation one hour prior. Memorial contributions can be made to donor choice.
