IRMO—Funeral services for Mary June Ward, 82, formerly of Irmo, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 27, 2014 at First Baptist Church Columbia- Boyce Chapel. Reverend Dennis Banks will officiate. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073. Mrs. Ward, beloved wife of 62 years to Donald E. Ward, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2014. Born in Lockhart, SC, she was a daughter of the late Alfred A. Meng and Zelma White Meng. Mrs. Ward graduated from Greenville High School in 1950. Mary June was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. As an active member of First Baptist Church of Columbia for 44 years, she volunteered countless hours writing notes of encouragement as well as sewing for the musical programs. Mary June will be remembered as a compassionate friend whose joy of life made a difference in the lives of those who knew her. Her unwavering faith was an inspiration throughout her life. Among her many interests were golf, piano and Gamecock football. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and visited 29 countries and 48 states together. Surviving in addition to her husband, Donald; daughters, Kay W. Powers and husband, Mark; Linda W. Provence and husband, Larry all of Irmo; son, D. Ken Ward and wife, Amy of Chapin; grandchildren, Jeremy Powers, Lauren P. Cason, Phillip Provence, Aaron Provence, Lea Ward and Lyn Ward; great-grandchildren, Kate, Ali and Jack Powers; brother, Kaliure Meng of Greenville. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Bernice Grant and Cora Ivester; one brother, Arthur Meng. The family wishes to thank Shirley and the other caring staff and nurses at Carroll Campbell Place for their love and dedication for the past 4 ½ years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christian Ministries Scholarship Fund at North Greenville University, P.O. Box 1892, Tigerville, SC 29688.
