Maurice A. Swenson
January 21st, 1935 - August 10th, 2023
Maurice (Maury) Albert Swenson age 88, died peacefully Thursday, August 10th, 2023 exactly four months after his beloved wife of 56 years Frances 'Vicki' Swenson. He was preceded in death by daughter Lynda, his parents Mabel and John, brothers Robert and Virgil, and sisters Carol (John 3rd) Fox, and Nila Swenson, and special family friend Leona Wilson. Maury is survived by sons John and Tom, grandchildren Meranda and Michael, sisters JoAnn (Ray) Freckelton, and Dianne (Patrick) O'Keefe, sisters-in-law Kathleen Cook, Mary (Mike) Schwietzer, and Joanne Carroll. Also nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Maury was born January 21, 1935 in Minneola, MN. He grew up on the family farm, and joined the Marines as a young man. After his military service, he married Vicki on September 10, 1966. Maury and Vicki loved polka dancing and going out with special friends Whitey and Anne on St. Paul’s southside. Maury and Vicki raised their family in St Paul. Maury worked for a local brewery and was a bus driver. He enjoyed playing baseball/softball and had the nickname ‘Swisher.’ Maury took great pride in being a Marine, and loved tinkering in his garage. Visitation Wednesday August 16, 9-10am at Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 1167 Grand Avenue, St. Paul, 55105. Prayer service at 10am. Interment immediately following at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Our Lady of Peace Hospice, who were invaluable in Vicki and other family members’ end of life care. Special thanks to Suite Living of West St. Paul and Allina – United Hospital for their care of Maury.
