Melvin Kennedy

Melvin G. “Spike” Kennedy, 93, of St. Petersburg, passed away on May 11th. He was born in Hastings, Nebraska on February 10, 1914 to the late Morton Kennedy and Marie Lenz. Spike had served as a firefighter in Washington, DC from 1941 to 1946 during which time he resided in Falls Church, VA. In 1947 he came to live in St. Petersburg where he was self-employed as an interior decorator. Later in life Spike had worked as a security guard at the Palm Shores of St. Petersburg. He was a member of the Mobil Americans Golf Club and previously served on the board of directors for the Voyager Beach Club. He was a member of the Starkey Road Baptist Church and attended the Faith Covenant Church. He is survived by his wife Beverly A.; two daughters, Wanda E. Sunter, Carolyn K. Fraze and her husband Henry, all of St. Petersburg; seven grandchildren, Carol Morris, Joyce Spalek, Henry Fraze Jr., Jon Fraze, Martha Davis, all of St. Petersburg, Steven Sunter of California and Cheryl Cecil of Cincinnati, OH; sixteen great-grandchildren.
