Melvin "Mel" Marquez earned his wings on March 14, 2022. He was born in Denver on February 3, 1939 to Roger Martinez and Ernestine Archuleta. He is preceded in death by his wife Ida Marquez; granddaughter Nicole Marquez; parents Roger and Ernestine; siblings Elmer Marquez, Donald Marquez, Addie Medina; in-laws Fred and Esther Suazo. He is survived by his children Karen Marquez, Viann Marquez, and Kenneth (Debbie) Marquez; grandchildren Adrian Lopez, Ernestine Lopez, Jamie ( AJ ) Villa, Kimberly Ruybal, Shereen (Jason) Gonzales, Stephanie (Ken) Golightly, Kayla ( Jaysen) Nakano and Darian Marquez; and 11 Great grandchildren. Mel served in the United States Army from 1957-1960. Mel and Ida moved to Alamosa in 1974. He owned and operated Alamosa Tire, Yanta INC., The Victoria Hotel, Monte Vista Tire, Belmont Tire in Pueblo, Filmore Tire in Colorado Springs, and Espaola Tire in New Mexico all with his brother Elmer. Mel loved playing golf, preparing income taxes, painting, and going up the hill. His family described him as very giving, caring, and friendly. He stayed in touch with everyone he knew. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
