WEST COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Melvin Lawrence Murphy, 75, of West Columbia, will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2013 at Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Hwy. 378. Officiating will be Pastor Lance Henderson. Burial will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be made to Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 1500 Sunset Blvd., West Columbia, SC 29169. Mr. Murphy, beloved husband of Melba Amick Murphy, passed away on May 14, 2013. Born in Lake Village, AR, he was the son of the late Clarence Thomas Murphy and Leatha Mae Finley Murphy. He was a Korean Conflict and Vietnam War Veteran with the United States Army, 1st Cavalry. He was a truck driver for many years; he enjoyed gardening and loved his family. Surviving in addition to his wife of 49 years, Melba Amick Murphy of West Columbia are: step-parents Fulton and Janie Brockwell; daughters Karen Dawkins (Dwayne) of Cayce and Kathy Hutto (Steven) of Lexington; grandchildren Jennifer Gossett (Christopher), Russell Dawkins, Daniel Dawkins, Evan Dawkins, Madison Dawkins, Noah Hutto and Collin Hutto; sisters Ann Murphy, Chris Ferrell and Doris Rives; brothers Tommy, Jackie, Ricky, Bobby and Travis Murphy and many nieces and nephews.
