Michael Vincent Hulen
December 13th, 1958 - May 5th, 2018
Micheal Vincent Hulen, "Mr. Ike Bear," passed away unexpectedly at home on May 5, 2018 in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 59. Mike is survived by his wife, Valerie; children, Niki (Austin) Johnson, Jamie (Jantzen) Fenn, and Michael Isaac; his mother, Harriett "Tina" Danberg; and sisters, Jenny Martineau, Tina Illikainen, and Julie Demars. He is preceded in death by his father, Hubert Hulen; step-father, Glenn Danberg; and son Andrew Michael. Mike was born December 13, 1958 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan to Hubert and Harriet. He was raised in Duluth, Minnesota where he enjoyed both tormenting and protecting his sisters. Mike attended the University of Wisconsin and the University of Minnesota Duluth pursuing his passion in Fine Arts. He proudly enlisted in the US Air Force and served as a munitions specialist in Okinawa, Japan until he was honorably discharged in January 1981. In 1988, he married his sweetheart, Valerie Bradley in Grand Junction, Colorado. The newlyweds moved to sunny Scottsdale, Arizona where Mike was eager to escape the cold and work as a mechanic for many beautiful golf courses. Mike continued to work with his hands throughout his life and became a processor for Nammo Talley Defense in 2007. Nearly 30 years of marriage brought Mike and Valerie three children and a son who passed away before birth. Mike's kids meant the world to him. Naturally, he set about teaching them his love for drawing and the gospel of Christ. His children remember him as a hardworking, service-orientated, funny father, who encouraged them to dream big and assured that they could accomplish anything they desired. Mike had inspiring artistic talent. He was accomplished in drawing, writing poetry, painting, building model cars from scrap, pinstriping, and playing the guitar. Mike had the biggest heart and most genuine spirit. Everyone who knew him loved him and was served by him in some way. Mike was a devoted Christian who was passionate about studying the Bible while praising God and Jesus in all he did. Visitation will be held at Meldrum's Mortuary, 52 North MacDonald, Mesa AZ, on Friday May 11 at 10:30 am. The funeral service will follow, beginning 11:30 am. A ceremony is scheduled for 2:00 pm at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mike's life.
