Michael Tyrone Lewis of Marina, CA passed away at the age of 60 on December 31, 2017. He was born on March 18, 1957 in Rocky Mount, NC to Joseph and Ida Mae Lewis. Michael attended school in Nash County before spending eight years in the Army. From there, he went on to manage various Kinney Shoe stores for the better part of 14 years in the Monterey Peninsula, Salinas, and San Jose locations. After his stint with Kinney Shoes, He worked for FedEx as a delivery driver. He then moved on to employment with the Carmel Unified School District as a bus driver for ten years where he earned his retirement. Additionally, he owned his own mobile detailing business, All Around Detailing, which he maintained for five years. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Ida Mae Lewis and sister, Pearl Roberson. He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly, of 37 years, two sons, Michael Jr. and Anthony as well as his grandson Donovan Lewis. He is also survived by three brothers Kenneth Lewis (Tanya), Joseph Lewis, Jr. (Lisa), James Boddie (Josephine) and his four sisters Cynthia Phillips, Uvon Lewis, Doris Riggsbee (John) and Betty Fogle. Michael enjoyed sports, mainly basketball where he was a proud Golden States Warriors fan. He devotedly cheered them on in route to their 2015 and 2017 championship runs. Moreover, he was also passionate about boxing, fishing and cycling which were his favorite past times. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family at home or with his extended family who have roots along the southern and eastern United States. He will be dearly missed by all of those who knew and loved him. Private services will be held in January at the California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery in Seaside.

For almost 100 years, our cemetery has served the residents of the Monterey Bay Area. Mission Memorial Park opened in 1934 as Mission Memorial Cemetery and for many years was run by the City of Monterey. In 1988, Monterey Peninsula Mortuary opened on the grounds of our beautiful Seaside location. In 2007 we closed our Chapel of Seaside at our Noche Buena location and merged the two to become Mission Mortuary & Memorial Park....
