Michael Dean Mullenax, 48, of Simla, Colorado, passed away on July 9, 2010, in his home in Colorado Springs, CO. Michael, known to his family and friends as Mike, was born on September 5, 1961, in Gunnison, Colorado, the son of Dean and Katherine (Thom) Mullenax. He was the older brother to Marc Mullenax. Mike, a veteran, was honored by his service to the United States Air Force. He enlisted at the young age of 18, eager and proud to become a military man. His service to the armed forces brought him to the far reaches of the world; he served domestically and internationally, eventually reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant . It was in 1980 in Oklahoma City, OK, that he met and stole of the heart of Karen Cowdrey, a young woman who was charmed by his witty jokes and boyish good looks. They wed on October 28, 1981 in Oklahoma City and eventually settled in Colorado Springs, CO where they built a life together. A proud American, and even prouder Colorado Native, Mike was known for his love of the outdoors. Even as a young child, his mother would often wonder what type of animal her son would bring into the house. He eventually grew into an accomplished hunter and outdoorsman. Coyotes, especially, would tremble in fear if they knew Mike Mullenax was around. Later in life, he developed a love and affinity for cooking. His use of spices and peppers put Emeril Lagasse to shame. He is survived by his wife, Karen, and his children, Clifford and Michelle Mullenax. He was the laughter of the room and the smile on his family’s face. His infectious personality will be missed. An honoring of Mike will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 23 at Simla Cemetery in Simla, CO. A community lunch will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to Disabled American Veterans, an organization that Mike was passionate about. www.dav.org Say not in grief he is no more, but live in thankfulness that he was.- Hebrew Proverb
