Michelle Rose (Smith) Pease, 51, of Cloquet, died Monday, November 18, 2013 in Solvay Hospice House surrounded by family and loved ones after a courageous four year battle with Lou Gehrigs disease (ALS). In 1962, she was born in Duluth to Bob and Rose Smith. Michelle married Michael Pease on October 15, 1983 in Cloquet. Michelle was a 1980 graduate of Cloquet High School. She graduated from Lake Superior College in 2011 for Health Unit Coordinator. Michelle was diagnosed with ALS one week after graduating at the top of her class from LSC. She was a waitress for many years with her last employment being a manager at Spirits Restaurant in Carlton. Michelle will be fondly remembered for her laugh, sense of humor, and her positive attitude. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert "Bob" Smith; sisters, Julie Ann Smith and Joanne Smith; and her mother-in-law, Shirley Pease. Michelle is survived by her husband, Mike Pease of Cloquet; sons, Tony (Jess) and Nick, both of Cloquet; mother, Rose Smith of Cloquet; sister, Susan (Joel) Bjorklund of Buffalo; brother, Steve (Cheryl) Smith of Grand Rapids; the love of her life, her grandson Mason, who always could put a smile on her face; father-in-law, Carroll Pease of Esko; brothers-in-law, Dan (Kim) Pease of Wrenshall and Ken (Britt) Pease of East Bethel; sisters-in-law, Joanne (Randy) Nelson of Cloquet and Shar Birkland of Tacoma, WA; numerous nieces and nephews; and will be sadly missed by her best friend, Diana Meier-Elmadari of Cloquet. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, November 23, 2013 in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Cloquet. Memorials may be made to the ALS Foundation.
