Miles Stanley
February 10th, 1942 - December 26th, 2014
Miles Gerald Stanley (Gerry) was born February 2, 1942 in Grand Junction, Colorado to Miles and Mildred Stanley. After graduating from Grand Junction High School, he joined the United States Army where he served both in the United States and in Germany. After an honorable discharge he began a career with the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad in 1963 working throughout Colorado and Utah. Gerry retired in 2007 after 44 years from the Union Pacific Railroad as a Signal Engineer and having served multiple terms as an officer for the Credit Union and his Labor Union. Gerry married Barbara Joan (Benton) Stanley in December of 1964. They had recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. He is also survived by his sons, Miles Stanley of Grand Junction, CO and Michael Stanley of Elizabeth, CO. He is also survived by his sister, Vanetta Moore of Grand Junction, CO, five grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mina Bell Schafer of Grand Junction, CO. A Master Mason, he proudly belonged to the Olive Branch Lodge in Saguache, CO. An avid golfer and Denver Broncos fan he enjoyed these hobbies and many others during his retirement. His ability to enjoy his retirement was made possible through the gift of life in the way of a heart transplant in 1999. Gerry was a supporter of the Organ Donor Alliance and encouraged others to consider organ and tissue donation. Sadly, his time on earth came to an end on December 26, 1994. He will be fondly remembered and forever missed.
