Minerva A. Castro
January 31st, 1935 - June 29th, 2024
In Loving Memory
Minerva Agullo Castro, 89, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away June 29, 2024 at Rice Estates Columbia, South Carolina. She was born on January 31, 1935 in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico to a very loving family.
Minerva was a joyous person and had been given many gifts. She was a lover of music, especially Latin music and a great dancer. Minerva's album collection was vast, and contained only the best of Latin dance music. She was blessed with the gift of hospitality in all facets. Minerva was an amazing cook and wanted to feed everyone that came to visit. She was kind, understanding with a quiet sensibility with a hint of Puerto Rican spitfire. Minerva was proud of her culture and shared the love of that with her children. A true caretaker at heart, she loved animals especially dogs. To the last days of her life, she spoke of her beloved dog, King and wanted to see her grand-dog Bootsie. Minerva will be missed by those she loved and those that loved her.
Minerva is survived by her daughters, Carmen C. Amick (Ronald), Yolanda Castro Cruzado (Geraldo); grandchildren, Michele Amick Bellard, Ann Marie Amick, Rafael Castro, Jr., Lydia Marie Castro, Ryan Castro and Justin Castro. She is also survived by her five great-grandchildren to treasure her memory.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Rafael Castro Silva and a son, Rafael Castro.
The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209, on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 12:00PM. Funeral services will follow the family visitation at 1:00PM with Reverends Manuel and Jeannie Aviles officiating.
