Muriel Ellen Nees Muriel Anderson was born in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, on July 31, 1927. She attended Lutheran schools in Rhinelander and Wausau, Wisconsin. She graduated from Wittenberg High School in 1945; Concordia Teachers College, River Forest, Illinois, in 1947; and Denver University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Muriel moved to Lakewood, Colorado, in 1947 to teach at Bethlehem Lutheran School (grades 1-4) and met the pastor’s son, Walter Nees. They were married in 1950 and lived in Lakewood and Arvada, Colorado, for their 69 years together. Muriel taught early childhood and primary grade children at Bethlehem and Wheat Ridge Lutheran Schools and in Denver Public Schools. Muriel passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 10, 2019, after her struggle with dementia. She is survived by her husband, Walter, her children David (Debbie), Virginia (Dennis), Daniel (Susie), and Timothy (Timi), 9 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services for Muriel will be held on Friday, October 25, 2019, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2100 N. Wadsworth Blvd, Lakewood, Colorado. Muriel’s viewing will be at 10:00AM. Her funeral service will be at 11:00AM with reception following. Her committal will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging area B, at 2:30PM. Donations on Muriel’s behalf may be made to The Lutheran Hour, American Bible Society, or Wycliffe Bible Translators to the ministry of Tom and Mary Holman.
