Nathan Joseph Carroll
July 30th, 1927 - April 23rd, 2017
Nathan J. Carroll, Sr. was one of nine children born to Dalton and Grace Carroll in Lincoln, Delaware. He often referred to himself as the Black Jack Benny (perpetually 39 years old). He passed away peacefully at his home on April 23rd with his wife and three of his children at home with him. Nathan met his wife, Michiko, in Japan while he was serving in the Korean Conflict. Like most military families, the family moved frequently. His daughter, Grace, was born in Japan; his eldest son, Nathan Jr, was born in Pennsylvania; and his youngest son, Alan, was born in New York. Nathan fell in love with the Monterey Bay when he had his first tour of duty at Fort Ord in 1956. After serving three years in Germany the family returned to Fort Ord where they stayed until Nathan retired in 1967. He bought his home and moved his family to Seaside. He was a 22-year veteran of the U.S. Army. He was also a 19-year employee of Monterey Peninsula College from where he graduated with his Associate of Arts Degree after retirement from the military. He loved to read, listen to music and play the harmonica. He played gospel songs in both his home church in Delaware and at the Fort Ord Chapel. Nathan leaves behind his wife, three children, nine grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. He was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle, dad, and grandfather. He leaves behind many fond memories with his adoring family and friends.

Mission Memorial Park
For almost 100 years, our cemetery has served the residents of the Monterey Bay Area. Mission Memorial Park opened in 1934 as Mission Memorial Cemetery and for many years was run by the City of Monterey. In 1988, Monterey Peninsula Mortuary opened on the grounds of our beautiful Seaside location. In 2007 we closed our Chapel of Seaside at our Noche Buena location and merged the two to become Mission Mortuary & Memorial Park....
