Nelly Pirtle passed peacefully on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at the age of 85 from a lengthy illness. She is proceeded in death by her husband James E Pirtle and survived by her two sons, Xavier Pirtle of San Jose, Frederick Pirtle of Seaside and grand-daughter Bridget Yanes-Pirtle of San Jose. Nelly is also survived by 2 younger siblings, her sister Lucienne Lowery of Bordentown, New Jersey and her brother Pierre Tisseyre of Dourlers, France. She lived in Seaside for 50 years, Nelly was born on July 18, 1930 in the small northern town of Dourlers, France and was the 4th oldest of 7 Children. Nelly enjoyed cooking, a talent that was passed down from her father. Her baking skills were enjoyed by all who were lucky enough to have sampled them. A dog lover, she was never without at least one by her side. She worked at Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula for over 30 year as a LVN nurse. Private services with take place at Mission Memorial Park. Gift donations can be made to the SPCA of Monterey County (spcamc.org) or the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org).

For almost 100 years, our cemetery has served the residents of the Monterey Bay Area. Mission Memorial Park opened in 1934 as Mission Memorial Cemetery and for many years was run by the City of Monterey. In 1988, Monterey Peninsula Mortuary opened on the grounds of our beautiful Seaside location. In 2007 we closed our Chapel of Seaside at our Noche Buena location and merged the two to become Mission Mortuary & Memorial Park....
