Norman Eugene Foster, 83, of Longmont, Colorado passed through the veil to be reunited with his bride, Pauline, and Heavenly Family on Monday December 9, 2013. He was born September 9, 1930 in New Castle, IN; the third of four sons entrusted by his Heavenly Father to Everett and Dorothy Foster. He was raised in New Castle, IN; and while family circumstances required that he enter the work force at a young age, he successfully completed his GED. Norm served his nation as a member of the Air Force during the years of the Korean Conflict, achieving the rank of Airman First Class (A1C) and being decorated with the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on July 8, 1954 at Andrews AFB in Washington DC. Subsequent to his national service he completed an apprenticeship as a machinist in Wilmington, DE, joined the National Bureau of Standards (now the National Institute of Standards and Technology) in Washington, DC as a machinist, and attended The University of Maryland on a part-time basis. While living in the Washington DC area he met and married Pauline Frances West on August 13, 1955. Together they relocated to Longmont, CO in 1964 where they raised their family. In Longmont he was active as an adult leader in the scouting program (Boy Scouts of America), and as a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge. Living in Longmont, Norm continued his employment as a skilled machinist at the National Bureau of Standards site in Boulder, CO; ultimately becoming the site’s apprentice instructor. To enhance his ability as an instructor, he completed a non-degreed program of study at Colorado State University; and after retiring from the Bureau, he joined Front Range Community College as an instructor in their Precision Machining Technology program. Forever content with his life, he took joy in honoring his bride and raising his family, in spending time with his grandchildren, in developing young machinists, in going fishing and working around the home, and in taking trips “up the hill” to Central City. Shortly prior to his passing, together with Pauline, he relocated to Littleton, CO to be closer to family that remained on the Front Range. He is survived by his three sons and their wives, Jay and Carrie Foster of Dallas, TX; Mark and Elaine Foster of Beaver Falls, PA and Dawsonville, GA; and Kent and Nikki Foster of Littleton, CO; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Thaddens (Thad) and Shirley Foster of Blythe, CA; and numerous nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his bride, Pauline West Foster (2013); his parents Everett and Dorothy Foster of New Castle, IN (1941 and 1990, respectively); and brothers Everett Foster, Jr. of Chesapeake City, MD (1995) and Keith Foster of Tampa, FL (1998). His interment, with honors, will occur December 16, 2013, 10:30 AM, at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver. Arrangements have been made through All Veterans Funeral Home, Wheat Ridge, CO.
