A Mass of Christian Burial for Oscar Dewalt Alderman, 86, of Ninety Six, SC will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with full military honors and interment to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Rosary will be held on Friday, October 1, 2010 at 6:00p.m.with visitation to follow from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The family requests memorials to be sent to the American Heart Association-29th Annual Jack Monroe Beach Ride @ www.ahabeachride.org. in Oscar?s memory. The family has entrusted Greenlawn Funeral Home with the arrangements. Major Alderman passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2010. He was born in Oak Hill, FL on March 5, 1924 to the late Oscar D. Alderman and Mamie Hall Alderman. Major Alderman graduated from New Smyrna Beach High School, and later attended the University of Florida. Major Alderman was a World War II and Korean War United States Army Infantry veteran who served honorably from 1943 to 1963. He was married on March 29, 1948 to Mrs. Margaret K. Alderman. After returning to civilian life, he worked for Prudential Insurance Company and Pulliam Ford Motor Company. Major Alderman retired from Pulliam Ford Motor Company in 1991. Major Alderman was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Columbia, SC and Sacred Heart Church in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Major Alderman was an avid sportsman and also donated his time to charitable activities such as ?Meals on Wheels?. Major Alderman was also a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving are his loving children, J. Kenneth Alderman, Margaret Alderman Ford, Thomas C. Alderman, Mary Ann Newton, Robert P. Alderman, Capt. James M. Alderman, Felix Beasley, and Richard H. Alderman; nine grandsons, Maj. Kenneth D. Alderman, Harden A. Alderman, Mark H. Alderman, C. McClellan Douglas, P. Alderman Douglas, Christopher G. Newton, Brian A. Newton, Grant D. Alderman, and Chase R. Alderman; one granddaughter, Emily R. Alderman; three step-grandchildren, Barbara F. Jefferson, Kyle P. O?Donnell and Megan M. O?Donnell; five great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Dan Alderman ( Euda Mary), Vincent Alderman, (Carole), Meta Devlin, Mary Lowe, Shirley Sullivan (Ross).
