Pamela Bowen Conroy
August 29th, 1942 - October 2nd, 2014
Pamela Conroy passed away on October 2, 2014 at her home in Colorado Springs after a valiant 18 month battle with colon cancer. She was surrounded by friends and family during her last days.Pam was born to Dr. Clovis W. and Helen Bowen on August 29, 1942 in Topeka, Kansas. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1960 and went on to study and graduate from Southern Methodist University in 1965.In 1962, she married Don Conroy, Jr. Upon college graduation, the Conroy family returned to Topeka – moving eventually to Overland Park, Kansas; Riverside, Illinois; Long Beach, California; and San Clemente, California. Not satisfied with being a homemaker, Pam took an Office Manager position with Tele Systems in Chicago. Intrigued by commission-based incentive plans, she struggled as a young mother to earn her stripes in high tech sales (telecom), a challenging task more so during that era. After years of battling with leadership, she was finally given an opportunity to sell; achieved great success in sales and earned numerous awards throughout her career including Presidents Club Awards and Max Quota Awards. When her younger sons were attending the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, she and Don became avid skiers – holiday times at Keystone became a family tradition since 1988. Pam loved having her family around her and creating memories in the Colorado Mountains and various other vacations with all generations of the family. After Don passed away in 2005, Pam continued living in San Clemente until she retired in 2012. She then moved to Colorado Springs with her longtime friend and companion, John Gould. She was passionate about her United Methodist Church Women's Association and Pink Ladies Group at Sunrise United Methodist Church. She looked forward to weekly hikes and fellowship meetings with church groups. She was known for traveling across the country to watch her grandkids compete in sporting events—but her favorite time of year was celebrating Christmas in Keystone chasing the grandkids down the slopes. Pam is survived by her children, Dani Lee (Rick) Swope of Suwanee, Georgia; John (Susan) of Plano, Texas; Don Conroy "D.C.", III of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Blair of Atlanta, Georgia; and seven grandchildren, D'Ann Conroy, Caleb Swope, Anna Conroy, Tori Swope, Jaycee Conroy, Mia Conroy and Sarah Conroy. She is also survived by her brother, Doug Bowen and partner, Richard McKinney of Topeka, KS.Memorial Service, 2:00PM, Thursday, October 9, 2014, Sunrise United Methodist Church, 2655 Briargate Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
