Patricia Kennett Moore (Patt) passed away peacefully at Pathways Hospice on May 19th, 2024. She was a teacher, banker, tireless volunteer, devoted wife and mother, and dear friend to many.
Born August 20, 1939, in San Francisco, California, to John and Dorothy Kennett, she grew up in Los Angeles, Hayward, and Lafayette, California, with siblings Joann and John. She graduated from Acalanes High School (1957) and attended the University of California at Davis, where she received a BA in Home Economics and teaching credential (1961). She met Chester G. Moore Jr. (Chet) while attending UC Davis, and they married in June 1962.
She started her teaching career at Placerville High School, moving to Winters High School after getting married while Chet finished graduate school. They moved to Washington, DC for two years while Chet served as a scientist for the US Army. While in DC, Patt served as a tour guide for family and friends who came to visit.
From Washington, DC, they moved to Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, where Chet had accepted a position at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez. What had been expected to be a 2-3 year adventure in Puerto Rico turned into 13 years. During their time there, Patt raised two active kids, wrote a cookbook, lobbied Congress for new school buildings for the Department of Education schools (Antilles), maintained an active social life, and substitute-taught a variety of courses (English, math, music) at the Antilles School District. Patt and Chet actively explored the history and culture of Puerto Rico, and surrounding islands, collecting art along the way. She made lasting friendships and survived a few hurricanes, too.
After Puerto Rico, Patt and Chet moved to Fort Collins. Once she got over the initial shock of the climate difference, Patt started establishing roots that would grow over the next 40 years. In Fort Collins, they bought a house they continued to live in for 42 years. Patt was an avid gardener and shared the abundance of her vegetable garden with the neighborhood. Once the kids were established in school, she joined Home Federal Savings & Loan (eventually Key Bank) for approximately 20 years. She was a cornerstone of the neighborhood and the community. She served as a greatly appreciated community liaison for the bank, actively fund-raising for the United Way and serving on funds distribution committees. She was active in the CSU Women’s Association, Plymouth Congregational Church (a regular in the prayer shawl knitting group), and socially active with a wide range of scientists and academic professionals. Patt was an energetic organizer of many activities and projects. She was cherished for her listening ear and support for her friends and community.
Patt loved to explore places and loved learning about the history, people, art and food of the places she visited. She celebrated any (and all) holidays with food. A fourth-generation Californian, Patt especially loved exploring California and was particularly fond of Napa Valley and wines.
She is survived by her husband Chet, children CG (Jamie) and Megan (Ben), siblings Joann and John, and grandchildren Ian, Lila, Vivian, and Duncan.
While Patt adored flowers, she was an avid supporter of many charitable causes. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one particularly dear to her, Project Self Sufficiency, in her memory. A celebration of her life will be held at Plymouth Congregational Church (916 W. Prospect Rd., Fort Collins) on July 20, 2024, at 11 AM. A live stream of the service will be available for those unable to attend in person. Please visit Vessey Funeral Service for Patt’s full obituary.
