Patricia Lynn Portwine

Patricia Lynn Portwine, Ed.D., age 90 passed away peacefully December 28, 2022 at Cates House in Ocala, Florida. Pat was born October 18, 1932 in Midland Michigan to Lee J. Carr and Genevieve (Romany) Carr. Pat grew up in Midland, Mi and graduated from Midland High School. On August 12, 1950 she married Eugene Fredrick (Fred) Portwine and subsequently moved to Romeo, Mi, where she raised her 5 children and continued her college education. Pat taught elementary school in Armada Mi. She was active in her local union Michigan Education Association where she performed collective bargaining. She obtained her Doctorate in Education from Western Michigan University. Pat and Fred moved to Ocala, Fl in 1986, where she worked as Director of Intake at Marion-Citurs Juvenile Detention Center. She also taught at St. Leo University in Ocala, Fl. Pat was certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a court mediator where she mediated civil court cases in Marion county. Pat was an avid bridge player, enjoyed traveling and was active with her churches, St. Clements of Rome, in Romeo, Mi and Our Lady of the Springs in Ocala, Fl. Pat is survived by her 4 daughters, Cheri Wood (Dave Petro), Mary Mahoney (Reed), Sue Tomberlin (Rick) and Margaret Cope (Mack), 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Pat was predeceased by her husband Fred, her son Fred, Jr. and grandson Brian Lee Portwine. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cates House in Ocala.
