Patrick Michael McAvoy (73) beloved husband of Cheryl (Buchner) McAvoy and formerly of Brookville Ohio, passed away peacefully at home in Venice Florida Friday October 9, 2020. Patrick aka: ""MAC"", was born in Dayton Ohio to the late parents George B. McAvoy and Betty L (Blacker) McAvoy on June 12, 1947.After graduating Stebins High School in 1965, Patrick worked for the Ohio Bell Phone Co. He then went to the Montgomery County Zoning Department. Patrick joined the Dayton Police Department June 21, 1968. In 1972 he joined the Montgomery County Sheriff Office. There he was a Deputy Sheriff, promoted to Corporal then Sergeant. The Sheriff's Office is where he met his beloved wife in 1983 when she began working as a civilian employee. She became his soulmate for 36 years. They married on April 11, 1986. Patrick was a Canine Supervisor, and member of the Hostage Negotiations Unit for many years. After graduating from Chain of Staff and Command school through Northwest University, he became Administrator Sergeant for the Major overseeing the Road Patrol and Detective Section. Those were the best years of his career. Often called ""Big MAC"" he has been described as mentor, calm, patient and one of the best men to work beside. He often said that he worked with the best men and women he could ever have. He took pride in his troops. Due to serious health issues Patrick retired in 1994. He and his beloved wife Cheryl moved to Venice Fl in 1998. Patrick loved golf and time spent boating at Indian Lake, Ohio. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Moose Lodge. Mac is survived by his beloved wife Cheryl McAvoy, son Chris Claypool (Beth) Fort Myers, FL,step-son Charles Hunter, Medway, Ohio,son in law Steve Tegtmeyer (Diane), Virginia Beach, VA. He is also survived by his beloved sister Sandy Dodge, as well as grandchildren: Coby, Marley, Maxwell, Emily, Cherlyn, Maryland, Jeffrey, Johnathan, both of Virginia Beach, Va. Aunt Nancy Blacker, cousins Brian and Brad Blacker, and many beloved friends. A celebration of life will be in Venice, FL at the Westchester Gardens Clubhouse and Pool on Saturday October 17, 2020 at 2 o'clock P.M. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be to: Sarasota Memorial Hospital Cancer Research and Cardiovascular research. Special thanks to Dr. Barry Stein and nurse Jodie for the care and special compassion they gave Patrick since 1998. Retired Gastric Dr. Isaac Kalvaria and nurse Rosanne for their care and compassion. LPN Debra Scafiti for providing expert in-home nursing. She became our friend and our angel. Our hearts are broken, but we are comforted knowing that you are finally at peace and rest and without pain. You have left a hole in our hearts that will not heal until we meet again. Rest well my love. As always, Your Bunkers.
