Paul Conrad Baumgartner, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is survived by his wife Linda (Smith) Baumgartner, his niece Lynn (Baumgartner) Henry (Orville “Butch”), and his great nephews Dr. Matthew Brown (Kathie), Patrick Brown (Caroline), Kyle Henry (Jennifer), and Brian Henry (Tracy). Preceded in death by His brother John Franklin “Frank” Baumgartner, his niece Barbara Lee (Baumgartner) Brewer, his father and mother. He was born March 13, 1933 in Salina, Kansas to Otto F. Baumgartner and Lillian (Johnson) Baumgartner. He attended Pembroke County Day school, Wentworth Military Academy, and graduated from Southwest High School in Kansas City, KS. He earned the rank of Cadet Colonel in the JROTC program and was given a scholarship to Harvard. After graduating from Harvard with his Bachelor’s Degree. He joined the Marines where he spent time in San Francisco and Hawaii from 1956-1963 some of it aboard the U.S.S. Hancock as an Ordinance Officer. After leaving the Marines as a First Lieutenant he went to New York University and earned Masters Degrees. Then he went on to earn his Doctorate from Columbia University in Philosophy and French Literature. He has attained a Life Master Certificate from the American Contract Bridge League. He was employed as a Financial Advisor and Investment Broker until he retired in 1991. He enjoyed watching the stocks everyday until the bell rang and playing bridge. He also enjoyed reading, writing, swimming, and listening to classical music. He will be buried at the new Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs.
