Paul Isaac Martinez

September 14th, 1930 - July 3rd, 2012

Paul Isaac Martinez Sr. passed away July 3 after a full 81 years of life. He died of natural causes, as he slept peacefully at his home in Caldwell, ID. Paul was born on September 14, 1930 in Monte Vista Colorado. His parents were the late Noverto and Perfecta (Trujillo) Martinez. Paul served in Korea in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1959. He was married to Victoria Gurule Martinez on February 9, 1954 in Taos New Mexico. Paul was a hard-working man whether farming, logging, or driving trucks. His hard work was always followed with a good siesta, or two. He was a brilliant storyteller and would share his experiences as he twirled his handlebar mustache with pride. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing for and with his family. He was a comfort for many in distressing times and, along with his wife, raised seven children, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He took great pride in his family and loved them unconditionally. Paul was a beloved member of a large family. He is survived by six children; Rosalie Martinez, Pauline Carbajal, Bobby Martinez, Paul Martinez Jr., Victor Martinez, and Veronica (Michael) Martinez-Blodgett, 18 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. His brothers; Arthur (Lori) Martinez, Manuel Martinez, Jose (Pauline) Martinez, Philip (Carol) Martinez and sisters; Sarah Ortiz, Martina Martinez and Clara (John) Cabrera also survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Amos Gurule, brothers; Fred Martinez, Noverto Martinez Jr., Solomon Martinez, Charles Martinez and sisters; Perfecta Romero and Jean Grijalva. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2012, 12:30pm at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell with viewing starting at 10:00am. Graveside service with military Honors will follow at 3:00pm sharp at The Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. Condolences for the family may be left online at www.flahifffuneralchapel.com. I'm very sad for all of us, he was a great man and he will be missed. I do need to share a story: When Victor and I first started seeing each other Paul ask Victor one morning how his job went and Victor would say what?. Paul would reply you know night watchman at the park. lol.. Still makes me laugh.. I made a comment to that when I seen Paul a couple weeks ago. We laughed. Vickie I hope when you read this it makes you laugh also..xoxo

Arthur & Lorrie Martinez

Arthur will miss his big brother lots. He has many tales to tell of/on Paul. His favorite that he shares often is irrigating the fields. Paul would stand leaning on the shovel telling great stories while Art dug the corrigates. He says the work didn't go faster but Paul sure made him laugh. I will miss him also. He accepted me into the family right from the start, with a smile and a hug. I remember our travels across Idaho to Colorado to bury his brother Noverto. Art was ill but hung in there in the back seat while Paul and I took turns driving. Many of times I had tears of laughter running down my face as he told me such funny stories. Sure made for a great trip I will never forget. Now Paul plays his guitar for the Angels and his siblings who went before him. God is truely lucky to have such a wonderful man with him. God bless everyone and make sure you remember the smiles and fun times - it is what Paul would want.

Dear Victoria and the extended Martinez family, I would like to send my sincerest sympathies to each of you for the loss you have felt this past week. A Husband-Father-Grandfather-Brother-Uncle holds a very precious position in a family. I often heard him referred to as "Grandpa Paul" by my daughter-in-law, Sandy. Her stories are always told in her grandpa voice, just as she remembers him, with his tender "Mija" when he spoke to her. I know the weeks and months ahead will be challenging in many ways and it is so good that you are a large family that can lean on each other for comfort and much needed strength. All my best wishes to you...Patricia Santa Cruz (David''s Mom)

My dad was a very wise and quiet man, but when he did speak it was it was louder than life it self!! Being one of many that had been raised by him, it was a gift to have been blessed with his love and wisdom... I am very happy to have laughed, cried, and shared that period of my life with such as amazing man!! The music he has brought into my life I will never forget and will for the rest of my life cherish, for those memories of my childhood I will hold on to for ever...
