Paul Schnabel
February 23rd, 1919 - January 17th, 2017
Paul Raymond Schnabel, 97, passed away on January 17, 2017 peacefully in Lakewood, Colorado at the Villa Manor Care Facility where he lived.. He was born on February 23, 1919 in LaSalle Colorado to Joseph and Evelina (Kittle) Schnabel. He had two brothers and a sister, Denzil, Gilbert and Bonnie. They lived in the east side of town and he attended Manual High School in Denver. He loved playing basketball in school and excelled in it. Every summer of his youth he took the train to his uncle and aunt’s farm in Nebraska and spent the summer helping with chores. They always had a horse for him to ride. He loved that time and talked about it all the time. Paul is preceded in death by his wife Mildred (DeBuno) Schnabel, His Great Grandson Ron Gabriel, His Great Grandson Alex Christensen, and his Grandson-in-law Ken Kidder. He is survived by his daughter Sharon (Jim) Gabriel, Granddaughter Renee (Ken) Kidder Carey, His Grandson Tony (Michele) Carey, His Grandson Jim (Rhonda) Gabriel, His Great Granddaughter Chanelle Hevener, Great Grandson Bill (Rebekah) Hevener; and Great Granddaughter Rachel White. Also his Great-Great Granddaughters Olyvia Hevener, Makynze Hevener, Kerealynn Hevener and Eva Christensen. Paul married Millie on December 30, 1940 and was then stationed in San Francisco in the Navy. After the Navy they moved back to Denver and he spent most of his life working in the printing business as a salesman. Pauls hobby was golf and he spent a lot of time playing and after he retired he worked at Overland Golf Club in the clubhouse. He also achieved a couple of “Hole-in-Ones”. He and Millie loved to go dancing and did that on the weekends at the old dance clubs on Morrison Road. He enjoyed his family and we will all miss him so much, but he had a long life and was getting tired. In lieu of flowers, his favorite charity was the Salvation Army. He always said during the war, it was them that helped the veterans more than anyone else. There will be no service. RIP Pop.
