Graveside services for Philip D. Greer, 86, of Columbia, will be held at 1:30 pm Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. The service will be able for streaming via TribuCast by clicking here or https://client.tribucast.com/tcid/6165605784. Rev. Richard Humphries will officiate. The family will greet friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm prior to the service at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Philip Greer passed away December 21, 2021. Born in Whitney (Spartanburg County), South Carolina, he was a son of the late Thomas Jefferson Greer and Estelle Hammett Greer. He served his country in the United States Air Force, and then graduated from Spartanburg Junior College in 1960 and Wofford College in 1962. Philip worked for the Internal Revenue Service as a Special Agent, and retired after 25 years of service. After retirement, he worked as a background investigator for the US Office of Personnel Management. Philip was a member of Greenlawn Baptist Church, and later worshipped through the Television Ministry of First Baptist Church of Columbia. Philip is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sandra Childers Greer; daughter, Catherine Ann Greer; sisters, Lois Greer Caldwell and Christine Greer Rice. In addition to his parents, Philip was predeceased by a sister, Amelia Greer Sanders. The family would like to thank the staff of the Moultrie Suite of Prisma Richland Heart Hospital for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church of Columbia Television Ministry, 1306 Hampton Street, Columbia, SC 29201, or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
