Phillip Wayne Golden
August 16th, 1942 - August 12th, 2018
Haines City: Phillip Wayne Golden, 75, passed away August 12, 2018 at Good Shepherd Hospice House in Auburndale, FL. Phill was born in Prattville, Alabama on August 16, 1942. Phill was of the Baptist faith. Phill graduated from Haines City High School in 1962. He worked at Kwik Chek, now Winn Dixie, and other grocery chains in the area until he bought his own grocery store, Super Save, in Winter Haven, FL. Later, he operated his own truck brokerage business, Freeway Truck Services, Inc. Lastly, Phill worked for the Kansas City Royals at Baseball City where he began as a ground keeper and ended his career there as Complex Manager. He retired in 2004. He loved taking care of his lawn, especially mowing, planting every seed he could find, and watching things grow. He also loved to cook, spicing up everything he made. No pot was big enough to hold his soup! Everyone loved his peach cobbler. His favorite snack was Cheetos downed with hot pepper sauce. He and Linda enjoyed riding around their property in his golf cart, loving all things outdoors. Just a few days before his passing, he called to Linda to come see the beautiful sunset. He is known by all as a kind, hardworking man who loved his family foremost. He will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his father James Golden; mother, Mary Nell Skelton; and step-father, David Skelton. Phill is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Linda (Green) Golden; daughters, Shari Golden (Joe Colloca) of San Diego, CA, Cindy Golden of Valrico, FL, and Susan Golden of Round Rock, TX; grandchildren, Hannah Van Ryswyk, Joey and Max Granzow, and Jackson and Lauren Schanz; sisters, Pat Williams, Sheila Nicholson, Kate Heitman, and Norma Atherton; and one brother, David Michael Skelton. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneston Ave, Auburndale, FL 33823.
