March 1st, 1927 - September 25th, 2018
Mr. R.J McDowell “Mac” of Eastover was born in Bledsoe County, Tennessee on March 1, 1927 and passed away on September 25, 2018. He was a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Uncle. Mac was a veteran of World War II and Korea. He served his country in the United States Army for over 20 years. He was a beloved member ECPH Church in his community. Mac loved to fish and love telling his military stories. He is survived by his daughters, Rhonda Parker (Dean) and Norma Carpenter (George); two sons, Joe Williams (Irmghard), Donald Shoaf (Madeline), a daughter-in-law, Geraldine Williams; 15 grandchildren, Kate, Ron, Mandy, Shawn, Emily, Shannon, Cassandra, Tabitha, Susie, Gloria, Elizabeth, Ashley, Garron, Don Jr. and Pearl; 17 great-grandchildren, Leah, Theo, Madison, Anthony, Mathew, Issac, Roxy, Emma, Marqia, Makenzie, Rory, Landon, Olivia, Aubrey, TJ, Freya and Myla; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olive McDowell; sons, Leroy Shoaf and Marvin Williams; grandson, Joseph Williams; his parents, Sam and Ethel McDowell; sisters, Flossie Narramore, Claudia Tate and Violet Lively; brothers, Otis, Otto, G. A. and Thomas McDowell The family of Mr. McDowell will receive friends on Sunday, September 30, 2018 from 4 to 6 pm at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 1 pm in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will have a gathering at 161 McDowell Lane, Eastover SC, 29044.
