Born on November 4, 1927 in Pittsburgh, PA to William and Grace Vollmer, Ralph was the 3rd child of fondly loved siblings, Yvonne (Jack) Quinn and Bud (Betty) Vollmer. He served in the Navy, returned to Pennsylvania, and graduated from Penn State University. His career as an engineer in the coal industry took him to Chicago, where he met the woman of his dreams, Ginny (Tarr) Vollmer, his wife of 49 plus years. They raised 2 daughters, Paula (Brian) Smith and Vicki (Jim) Simkins. He was the proud and loving grandpa of Brian and Brendan Smith and Doug (Stephanie), Andy (Aly), Tracy Simkins, and great grandpa to Declan Simkins. His interest in others, joy of entertaining, sense of humor, intelligence and his faith led him to be blessed with many lifelong friends, travel opportunities, and precious “truly unique” memories with his family and all that were lucky to have been a part of his life. Visitation: Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. immediately followed by a 10:00 a.m. mass, with military honors, at Mother Cabrini Shrine Chapel, 20189 Cabrini Blvd, Golden, CO 80401. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Mother Cabrini Shrine or The Gardens at St. Elizabeth, 2835 W 32nd Ave, Denver, CO 80211.
