Randall "Rand" Enas

Rand was born in Watsonville, California in 1946. After graduating from high school, he was admitted to UC Berkeley. Rand really enjoyed his time there; he used to tease that he entered as a beatnik and left as a hippie! Unable to afford college for very long, he enlisted in the Air Force in 1965. He was assigned as a weather observer/forecaster in Germany for four years. He learned German, lived in town and loved his time overseas. Next, he was assigned to Edwards AFB where he forecasted the weather for test pilots. In the middle of the Vietnam War drawdown, Rand was accepted into the highly competitive Airman Education and Commissioning Program. He was awarded his Bachelor's Degree at Colorado State University in 1975. Then it was off to Air Force Officer Training School where he met his future wife, Liz Spamer! Rand married Liz in 1977. His career as an officer centered on software programming, software quality assurance and software systems engineering. He worked on military aircraft scheduling systems, space surveillance systems, and established new communication circuits for the Defense Nuclear Agency. Upon retiring from the Air Force in 1985, Rand's moving days were still in full swing. His Air Force wife moved frequently and he continued his software career at each of her assignments. He worked for Control Data Corporation, Kaman Sciences, Harris and Boeing over the years. Rand earned his Master's Degree from the University in Denver in 1990. When Liz finally retired, the couple settled in Colorado Springs where they celebrated the end of their Air Force moves with a moving box burning party!Rand was a self-made man. Everything he had, he earned himself through hard work and great dedication. Although known as a curmudgeon (he was amused and proud of it), he had a soft heart, incredible integrity and a keen wit. If Rand said he would do something, it was done. He was still deeply in love with Liz, his wife of forty-three years, when he died.Rand is survived by his wife, Elizabeth A. Enas; his aunt, Anne Parlier; and his brother and wife, Dennis and Carol Nichols.A Private Graveside Service was held Friday, October 23, 2020, Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 Hancock Expressway, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Rand's memory may be made to Care and Share or to your favorite charity.
